CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet and is a technology for controlling the way that web pages display. CSS is generally a preferred method for controlling the way that web pages look because when used correctly it allows the designer to separate presentation from content.
The practice of separating the visual style of a page from the content provides several key benefits. It enables the look of a site to be dramatically altered without any changes to the information it contains. It is cheaper to develop sites in this way because of the ease with which display problems can be found and solved. It also enables skilled designers to provide the best visual experience possible across a broad range of viewing devices and browsers. There are a collection of standards that are being actively developed to further enhance the use of CSS within web pages and provide an even more accessible web in the future.
